Security Overview

Using the map we created for your IT infrastructure, Need-a-Nerd can determine which devices require antivirus software. We recommend several different types of antivirus software, depending your specific needs and task requiremennts, as well as your system specifications (CPU, RAM, etc.).

Network Firewall

Network firewalls are useful in managing security throughout your organization. Rules can be created, which prevents or enables content to your network. Network firewalls can also use subscription security services such as content filtering. This centralizes your company IT policies. Firewalls can add an additional layer of security to your network.

Drive Encryption

Drive encryption, also known as full-disk encryption (FDE), is a data protection method that transforms all data on a storage medium, such as a hard drive or solid-state drive (SSD), into an unreadable format (ciphertext) using a secret key or password. Multi-Factor Authentication

Many websites now offer 2FA (multi factor authorization) as an additional security measure for site access. Its important to setup 2FA on any site that you use frequently, and that offers it. Secondary authorization usually comes as a text, email, voice call, or on a mobile authorization app.

Saving and storing your passwords in your browser is a dangerous way for your passwords to be breached. Using a password managment app like Roboform, LastPass, or NordPass stores your passwords for your browser, however it also encrypts them, making them unvulnerable to a browser breach. If you use multiple devices, its helpful to have the same internet bookmarks on whichever device you are using. Need-a-Nerd can help you setup a bookmark management system which works across any type of computer and/or mobile device, and keeps your bookmarks synced.

A VPN is an additional layer of security which makes your device invisible on the internet. It prevents ISP's and other entities from gathering information about your browsing history. These companies create a profile for you, and sell this information to marketing companies and other interested parties.
